People often wonder whether or not the brain is affected when someone sustains a spinal cord injury. The brain and the spinal cord are separate parts of the central nervous system. Therefore, what sometimes happens is that when the brain sends messages to the spinal cord when someone is paralyzed, these messages don’t go through properly, and that can affect whether or not somebody can move and whether or not they can feel after they sustain the spinal cord injury.
