Cauda Equina Syndrome
Cauda Equina Syndrome is a medical condition where the nerves located at the bottom of the spine become compressed. This syndrome can be caused by a trauma such as a fall or a road traffic accident, but it can also be caused by tumours or medical error.
The condition can be very painful and has some extremely distressing side effects which can include:
- Lower back pain
- Numbness in the groin area
- Bowel disturbance
- Inability to pass urine or incontinence
- Sensory abnormalities in the bladder or rectum
- Recent onset of sexual dysfunction
- Loss of reflexes in the extremities
- Pain in the inside of your thighs
The symptoms of Cauda Equina Syndrome can worsen rapidly if there is a delay to diagnosis or treatment and this can also reduce the chances of making a full recovery.
If you have been diagnosed with Cauda Equina Syndrome that was caused by an accident which was not your fault, then you should speak to a specialist spinal cord injury lawyer as soon as possible.
At Aspire Law we have had a lot of experience in dealing with this type of case and we have secured significant compensation payments for our clients.
Your Cauda Equina Syndrome may have been caused by a surgical or medical error or your symptoms may have become worse because your GP or consultants failed to make a correct diagnosis.
If a mistake has been made by a doctor or other medical professional which has resulted in you sustaining an injury, then you may be entitled to make a compensation claim for medical negligence.
Medical negligence cases can be technical and complex but if you think you have a claim, one of our solicitors will be able to advise you on an appropriate course of action.
