Aspire Law Training Day
On October 1st 2015 we held our very first Aspire Law Training Day. The Training Day took place at the Aspire National Training Centre, which is built adjacent to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, Middlesex.
The training consisted of several modules and presentations given to the legal team by some of the specialist clinicians from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. Subjects that were covered included:
- The role of Occupational Therapy and the level of recovery that can be expected
- A medical overview of Spinal Cord Injury by Dr Angela Gall
- Mental Health and the Psychological adjustment required post Spinal Cord Injury
- The role of the Physiotherapist in the hospital and the community
Specialist Spinal Cord Injury Training
The sessions were attended by Damian Horan, Aspire Law Legal Director, as well as the team of specialist spinal cord injury solicitors from Aspire Law.
In addition our colleagues from the charity Aspire took the opportunity to update the Aspire Law team on some of the more recent developments to the services that they provide. This included a comprehensive round up of the recently launched Welfare Benefits Advice Service, and an update on the expansion to the Aspire housing program.
The full day event also provided a welcome opportunity for the teams from both organisations to find out about some of the cases that Aspire Law are currently working on, and to exchange ideas on how both sides can work together over the next 12 months.
Feedback on the training
The training day was the brainchild of Brian Carlin, Aspire’s Chief Executive who explains; “Prior to forming Aspire Law in November 2014, all our research told us that we not only had to build a team with the best legal expertise in handling SCI claims, but we had to ensure that the legal team understand the massive personal impact that a SCI can have on an individual and their family. The Training Day that we have just delivered is specifically designed to do just that.”
Damian Horan, Aspire Law Legal Director added;
“Our solicitors are all experts in handling complex and highly technical spinal cord injury compensation claims. The training that we have just undertaken now gives us an even greater understanding of the wider issues that can also affect our clients. This is a great example of how Aspire Law combines the knowledge of a charity like Aspire, with the legal skills that we have, to create a truly unique customer offer.”
